Adjustable base beds have long been viewed as a very high-end option that was unaffordable for most, and often associated with only older generations. Well, times have changed. With the furniture and mattress market evolving with retail to e-commerce and omni-channel business models, products have evolved, prices points have dropped, and manufacturers have an opportunity to reposition these products to a new market of Gen X, Millennial and Gen Y shoppers.

Many e-commerce retailers are selling adjustable bed frames for as little as $375, while traditional furniture and mattress retailers are offering special bundle promotions with adjustable bases for as little as $150 when purchasing a compatible mattress. So what type of mattress will work best with your new investment?

Common Adjustable Bed Frame

Memory Foam Mattresses

Memory foam is designed to conform to your body shape, so it only makes sense that it would also work well conforming to an adjustable base. Memory foam mattresses are gaining popularity for their comfort, support, price point, and ease of transport.

Gel Foam

Along the same lines as the memory foam mattress, gel foam mattresses are a great option for adjustable bed frames. In addition to the contouring benefits of foam, many gel-infused mattresses offer unique cooling and temperature regulating properties that provide a cool, comfortable night of sleep.

As compressed mattresses have become more and more in demand, manufacturers are working to develop products with traditional mattress components, such as pocket springs, that many sleepers need. Since these products are designed for compressed packaging, they are more flexible than traditional hybrid mattresses and work well with adjustable bed frames.

A general rule of thumb is that any compressed and rolled mattress should work well with an adjustable bed frame, as it was designed to withstand significant curving and manipulation. In the comment section below, share with our readers what mattress types you've found to work best with your adjustable base!
